Canadians On Ice
If there's one sport Canada is best known for, it's hockey! And although most teams in the NHL are American, that's not to say there aren't plenty of amazing Canadian professional players on those teams. Here are just five examples of them - you might be shocked to learn they were actually born in our friendly neighboring country!
1. Sydney Crosby
Known as Canada's Golden Boy, Sydney Crosby might be the captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins in the NHL, but he was born and raised up North. Coming from Halifax, Nova Scotia, this incredibly talented hockey player has wowed his home country again and again with his professional career and performance on the Canadian Olympic team.

2. Brad Marchand
Currently playing for the Florida Panthers as their left winger, Brad Marchand is actually a Canadian born and raised in Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia. Though his career in the NHL has been for American teams, like the Boston Bruins, real Canadian hockey fans know what his national team is!
3. Brayden Point
Playing as the centre for the Tampa Bay Lightning, Brayden Point may have won the Stanley Cup back to back with this American NHL team, but he actually comes from Canada. Over in Western Canada, Point was born in Calgary, Alberta where he first developed his love for the sport.
4. Nathan MacKinnon
Serving as the alternate captain and centre player for the Colorado Avalanche in the NHL, Nathan MacKinnon is certainly a very gifted professional hockey player. All the Canadian fans love him! Having won the Stanley Cup back in 2022, this Halifax born-and-raised player is only getting started.
5. Matt Duchene
Having played for numerous teams in his NHL career, like the Colorado Avalanche and Columbus Blue Jackets, Matt Duchene is currently on the Dallas Stars, playing as their centre player. Despite being on all these American NHL teams, Matt Duchene began his career in Canada, growing up in Haliburton, Ontario.
