5 Cities That Deserve Their Own NBA Team

The League Has Room For More

The NBA seems to have enough teams to worry about, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for a few more cities to squeeze themselves into the roster. Though some of these cities have already been nudged to the front of the line for talks about expansion, we thought we’d narrow down a few more that deserve their own shot at glory.

Seattle

Seattle doesn’t just deserve an NBA team; it deserves a proper homecoming. The SuperSonics left behind a fan base that never stopped caring, and with a strong sports culture, a recognizable basketball identity, and years of unfinished emotional business, Seattle feels less like an expansion gamble and more like the next logical move.

Las Vegas

Las Vegas has enough glamor to be going on with, but come on! It’s also become a major sports city with remarkable speed, and an NBA team would fit right into the spectacle. You can almost picture the pregame introductions—full theatrical productions without subtlety, which was never Vegas’ strong suit anyway.

Mexico City

Mexico City would give the NBA a bold international step without feeling disconnected from the league’s foundation. It’s a perfect choice! It has a massive population, a passionate sports culture, and the kind of market potential that would entice people to flood the seats.

Vancouver

Say what you want about their former glory, but Vancouver deserves another chance after the Grizzlies’ awkward first chapter. The city has grown, and Canadian basketball is in a far stronger place than it was decades ago. A modern Vancouver franchise could feel fresh rather than recycled, especially with the right ownership.

Louisville

Alright, Louisville may not be the flashiest candidate, but it’s a basketball city through and through. The college game has deep roots there, and that local passion could translate to the professional level. Not to mention, it’d give the NBA a smaller-market story with real personality.
